The best time to post on Instagram is the time when your followers are online, and Instagram itself shows this data in Insights → Total followers → Most active times, for profiles with at least 100 followers. Until you have that data, a starting point is to post on weekdays, between 10am and 2pm, the window that comes up most often in the top Google results.

DayStarting pointHow many sources agree
Monday11am to 2pm3 of 4
Tuesday10am to 4pm3 of 4
Wednesday10am to 4pm3 of 4
Thursday10am to 1pm3 of 4
Fridayaround 11am3 of 4
Saturdayaround 11am2 of 2
Sunday12pm to 2pm2 of 2

The table is a starting point, not a rule: it combines studies with data from all over the world. The time that works for your profile is in your Insights, and this guide shows how to find and test it.

Why every site gives a different best time

On October 30, 2026, we searched Google Brazil for "melhor horário para postar no Instagram" (best time to post on Instagram) and read the top results. Each one gives a different answer: 6am, 9am to 11am, 9am to 3pm, 11am to 1pm, 11am to 5pm. For Monday, one site says 11am to 5pm, another 11am to 2pm and another 3pm to 9pm.

Reading each page, the reason becomes clear: almost all of them repeat two or three studies by scheduling tools, done with data from accounts all over the world and with every format lumped together. The same study shows up with different numbers on different sites, and one of the articles cites two studies that don't agree with each other.

Nobody is lying. Each study measures one audience, one period and one type of content. The problem is treating the average of millions of accounts in other countries as if it were your audience's best time.

Best time to post on Monday according to the top Google results: 6am, 11am to 5pm, 11am to 2pm, 3pm to 9pm and a second study with 6am, 10am and 10pm

‍In this guide, you will learn:

  • What the best time to post on Instagram is as a starting point, by day of the week.
  • The best time for each format: Reels, photos, carousels and Stories.
  • How to find your profile's best time in Insights, step by step.
  • How to test your posting time in 4 weeks, and what to measure.

Posting at the right time won't save weak content, but it gives good content the chance to be seen by the people who interact with you the most.

What is the best time to post on Instagram in 2026?

If you searched for the best time to post on Instagram, the short answer is: when your followers are on the app, ideally a little before the peak. For most profiles that haven't looked at their own data yet, weekdays in the late morning and early afternoon are the safest bet.

Why timing matters

The Instagram feed isn't chronological, but timing still counts. According to Instagram's official post on ranking, the feed considers recent posts from the people you follow, and among the most important signals are when the post was published and how quickly people like, comment, share and save it.

In practice: if you post while your followers are asleep, the post gets old before it receives its first interactions. If you post while they are online, the interactions come in fast and the post has a better chance of being shown to more people.

Why the studies don't agree

  • Time zone: Brazil has 4 time zones, according to Law 12,876/2013. An audience in Manaus is one hour behind São Paulo, and global studies mix time zones from all over the world.
  • Audience: people who follow a gym wake up early; people who follow a gaming store are online at night.
  • Format: most studies lump together feed posts, Reels and Stories, which work in different ways.
  • Metric: some measure likes, others reach, others comments. Each metric peaks at a different time.

Common posting time mistakes

  • Copying another profile's posting time. The peak of an account with a different audience isn't yours.
  • Changing the time every week. Without repeating, you can't tell what worked.
  • Posting and leaving the app. Instagram measures how quickly people interact; replying to the first comments helps keep the conversation going.
  • Blaming the time for everything. If the content doesn't hold attention, no posting time will fix it.

What is the best day to post on Instagram?

In the studies that show up on Google, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday are the days cited most often. But the weekend is what people search for the most: in Brazil, searches for the best time to post on Instagram on Sunday and on Saturday are among the most common on the topic, because behavior changes a lot on those days.

Best time to post on Instagram by day of the week: Monday 11am to 2pm, Tuesday and Wednesday 10am to 4pm, Thursday 10am to 1pm, Friday and Saturday around 11am, Sunday 12pm to 2pm

Monday to Friday

On weekdays, Instagram use follows the work and school routine: before leaving home, at lunch and at the end of the day.

Pros: the routine is more predictable, so the peaks repeat from one week to the next. It is easier to test and compare.

Cautions: during business hours, many people scroll the feed quickly, between one task and another. Longer content may perform better at the end of the day.

Weekday starting point:

  • Monday: 11am to 2pm
  • Tuesday and Wednesday: 10am to 4pm
  • Thursday: 10am to 1pm
  • Friday: around 11am

Best time to post on Instagram on Saturday

On Saturday, the routine changes: with no work hours for most people, phone use is less concentrated at fixed times.

Pros: for businesses open on weekends (restaurants, salons, street shops), it is the day customers are deciding where to go.

Cautions: only half of the results we read give a time for Saturday. Here, your Insights matter even more than the table.

Saturday starting point: around 11am.

Best time to post on Instagram on Sunday

Sunday is the day more people search for the best time to post, and the one that varies most from one profile to another.

Pros: people have more time to watch a long video or read a carousel all the way through.

Cautions: some studies point to Sunday as one of the weakest days for education and business profiles. Test it before concentrating important posts on it.

Sunday starting point: 12pm to 2pm.

What is the best time to post on Instagram today?

Find today's day in the table at the top and use that day's window as a starting point. If you already have Insights, ignore the table: open Most active times, check today's peak and post at that time or up to 1 hour before. Sites that show "today's best time" use the same average of global studies, not your audience.

At night: is 9pm a good time to post?

It can be. Some of the studies that show up on Google point to early evening, between 7pm and 9pm, as the best time for certain segments, and one of the Monday windows runs until 9pm. If your Insights show active followers at 9pm, post at that time and compare it with the lunchtime slot for a few weeks.

What is the best time to post Reels, photos and Stories?

Each format reaches people through a different path, and that is what defines how much timing matters.

How much timing matters for each Instagram format: high for photos, carousels and Stories, which reach your followers first, and lower for Reels, which reach people who don't follow you yet

Best time to post Reels on Instagram

Reels are shown, for the most part, to people who don't follow you yet, according to the same official Instagram post. That is why timing matters less: a Reel can be discovered hours or days later.

Pros: a good Reel keeps circulating even when posted outside the peak.

Cautions: the first views usually come from people who already follow you. Posting while they are online helps the video get off to a good start.

Starting point for Reels: what is the best time to post Reels? The same peak as your followers, with less rigidity. For the ideal length of each video, see how long a Reel can be.

Best time to post photos on Instagram (and carousels)

Photos and carousels show up mainly in your followers' feed, and the feed favors recent posts. This is the format where timing matters most.

Pros: if you get the time right, the post shows up at the top of the feed of the people who interact with your profile the most.

Cautions: posted outside the peak, the post loses ground to newer ones before it gets its first likes.

Starting point for photos and carousels: at your followers' peak or up to 1 hour before. To build carousels that hold attention until the last slide, see our Instagram carousel guide.

Best time to post Stories

Stories show up at the top of the app for your followers and disappear after 24 hours, unless you save them to your highlights.

Pros: you can post several throughout the day and see right away how many people watched each one.

Cautions: posting many at once, outside the peak, makes the whole sequence go unnoticed.

Starting point for Stories: spread them throughout the day, with the most important ones at the peak. To repost other accounts' content, see how to repost stories.

How to find the best time to post on your Instagram

Instagram shows when your followers are online. According to the Meta Business Help Center, Total followers insights appear when the profile has at least 100 followers and include Most active times on Instagram. Meta itself warns that these metrics are estimated.

  1. Open your profile and tap Insights (in the professional dashboard).
  2. Choose the period in the menu at the top. Go for the last 30 days, which give a more stable average than 7.
  3. Tap Total followers and scroll down to Most active times.
  4. Check by hour and by day. Write down the two times with the tallest bars and the day with the most followers online.
  5. Set your posting time at the peak or up to 1 hour before, and use that time in your calendar.
Drawing of the Instagram Insights screen showing where to find Total followers, Most active times by hour and by day, and the peak of followers online

🔑 Tip: the chart shows when your followers are online, not when they interact. If the online peak is at 10pm, but nobody comments late at night, your best time may be earlier.

How to read a posting time heatmap

Some tools show the same data as a heatmap: the 7 days of the week in the rows, the 24 hours in the columns, and the strongest color where more people are online or engagement is higher.

  • Look for blocks, not a single square. Two or three hours in a row of strong color are worth more than an isolated peak.
  • Compare the rows. If every row has the same strong block, your time is the same every day.
  • Be wary of little data. With few posts in the period, a single post that did well colors the whole map.
Example of a posting time heatmap with 7 days and 24 hours, with three readings marked: strong blocks at 11am and 8pm, the same times on every weekday and an isolated peak on Wednesday at 4pm

In BestContent Social, for example, Analytics has a Best times to post card, a heatmap in Brasília time with two readings: followers online over the last 30 days, according to Instagram, and your posts' engagement by day and hour. In a live session about the feature, BestContent's own map pointed to Friday around 8am as the best time on Instagram and Friday at noon on Facebook. On the same account, each network has its own best time. If you want to see your map, connect your profile to BestContent Social.

How to test the best time in 4 weeks

The followers online chart tells you when your audience is on the app. The test tells you when they interact. In 4 weeks, you swap the generic time for your own.

  1. Week 1: write down the starting point. Choose 2 times: the peak from your Insights and the one from the table at the top of this guide.
  2. Weeks 2 and 3: alternate. Post the same type of content at both times, on similar days. At least 3 posts at each time.
  3. Compare after 24 hours. For each post, write down the reach and interactions (likes, comments, shares and saves) from the first day.
  4. Week 4: confirm. Use the winning time and see if the result repeats. If it's a tie, choose the one that's easier to keep up.
Testing the best time in 4 weeks: choose 2 times, alternate in weeks 2 and 3, compare reach and interactions after 24 hours and confirm in week 4

So you don't need to have your phone in hand at each time, plan the week in advance. Our Instagram posting schedule has a ready-made template, and a post scheduler publishes at the time you choose.

🔑 Tip: only compare posts of the same format. A Reel against a photo measures the format, not the time.

Does timing matter for the Instagram algorithm?

It matters, but it isn't what weighs the most. In the post where it explains ranking, Instagram says it uses thousands of signals, and the time a post is published is just one of them. In the feed, the most important is information about the post, which includes how popular it is and how quickly people interact with it.

Timing helps with that speed: a post published while the audience is online gets its first interactions sooner. But a post nobody wants to comment on doesn't get better because it went out at 11am. The right format and size also count: see our guide to Instagram post size.

What is the best time to post on TikTok and other networks?

The logic is the same on all of them: each network shows when your audience is online. What changes is the period each one considers.

Best time to post on TikTok

TikTok Analytics shows when your audience is most active, in the followers and viewers tabs.

Pros: the data is by hour and by day of the week, like on Instagram.

Cautions: the period is short, only the last 7 days, according to the TikTok Creator Academy. One unusual week changes the chart.

Where to see it on TikTok:

  • Where: Analytics, followers and viewers tabs
  • What it shows: hours and days when your audience is most active
  • Period: last 7 days

Best time to post on YouTube

YouTube has the When your viewers are on YouTube report, in the audience analytics of YouTube Studio.

Pros: YouTube itself suggests using the report to schedule a Premiere or plan a live stream, according to YouTube Help.

Cautions: the report shows your audience's activity across all of YouTube, not just on your channel, and the use YouTube suggests is for live streams and Premieres, which happen at a set time.

Where to see it on YouTube:

  • Where: YouTube Studio, channel analytics, audience
  • Report: When your viewers are on YouTube
  • Period: last 28 days

Best time to post on Facebook

On Facebook, the same rule applies: your Page's best time isn't the same as your Instagram's, even with the same audience. In the BestContent example mentioned above, the Facebook peak came 4 hours after the Instagram peak, on the same day. Look at each network's data separately before scheduling the same post on all of them.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best time to post on Instagram?

What is the best day to post on Instagram?

In the most cited studies, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. For your profile, the best day is the one with the most followers online in Most active times in Insights.

What is the best time to post on Instagram on Sunday?

As a starting point, between 12pm and 2pm. Sunday varies a lot from one profile to another, so confirm it in your Insights before concentrating important posts on that day.

What is the best time to post Reels?

The same peak as your followers, but with less rigidity than photos and carousels. Reels reach a lot of people who don't follow you yet and can be discovered hours or days later.

Where do I see the best time to post on my Instagram?

In the app, open Insights, tap Total followers and scroll down to Most active times. The data shows up for profiles with at least 100 followers.

Does posting at the wrong time hurt reach?

Only a little, mainly in the feed, which favors recent posts. Good content posted outside the peak still reaches people, it just starts more slowly.

Conclusion

In short, the best time to post on Instagram in 2026:

  • Starting point: weekdays, between 10am and 2pm.
  • Your real best time: Insights → Total followers → Most active times.
  • By format: photos and carousels at the peak; Reels with more leeway; Stories throughout the day.
  • To confirm: 4 weeks alternating two times, comparing the first day of each post.

Timing is fine-tuning. First comes content people want to see; then, timing makes sure it reaches them when they are looking. Review your Insights every few months: your audience changes, and so does your best time.
